PNG PRIME MINISTER TO VISIT AUSTRALIA
The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Mr Somare, and
Mrs Somare, will visit Australia from 3 to 6 March.
They will be guests of the Australian Government.
Mr Somare will arrive in Sydney on 3 March, spend 4 to
March in Canberra, and thien return to Sydney from where he
will leave for New Zealand to attend a special meeting of the
South Pacific forum.
The Australian Government is particularly pleased that Mr
Somare has been able to make the visit to Australia so early
in the life of the new Government.
This will be his first visit as Prime Minister of an independent
Papua New Guinea.
The visit will oide a -elcome opportunit-y for th two
Prime Ministers to review the full range of relations between
Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Australia attaches great importance to these relations
and the Government will work energetically to develop them
further in the years ahead.
