New bouth Wales Floods
The Prime-Minister :: said~ today-that the
Commonwealth and the New South Wales Governments were
working together in a co-operative and-expeditious way
to assist individuals, businesses 2. nd public authorities
in need as a result of the floods which had occurred
in the Northern and Western areas. of the State. 7'
The Premier of New South Wales has today
announced details of measures of relief and restoration.
The Prime Minister said that these measureinclude
the relief of personal hardship and distress,
loan assistance on concessional terms for primary
producers, small businesses and sporting clubs, rail
rebates for primary producers and the repair and restoration
of public assets ( including local government assets)
damaged or destroyed by the floods.
" These measures are to be administered by
State authorities and enquiries should be directed to
thes. The Commonwealth Government, however, will contribute
towards the financing of the costs of the mea. sures under
established natural disaster assistance arrangements"
Mr Fraser said.
