CHAIRMAN INCOME SECURITY REVIEW
The Prime minister announced today that the Chairman of the
Review Group for the Income Security Review would be
Mr I. Castles, Deputy Secretary, Department of the
Prime Minister and Cabinet.
On .8 September 1975 the Prime Minister announced the
decision to undertake the Income Security Review, and
thb terms of reference for it. The Review Group will
consist of officials from the Departments of Social Security,
Repatriation and Compensation, Labor and Immigration,
Prime Minister and Cabinet, Treasury, the Taxation Office
and the Social Welfare Commission.
The Group will be monitored by a Cabinet Committee of
Ministers comprising the Prime Minister, the Treasurer,
the Minister for Social Security and Minister for
Repatriation and Compensation and the Minister for Labor
and Immigration.
The-. terms of reference embrace a comprehensive review of
Government policy in the welfare area, including
consideration of important reports that the Government
has received or commissioned relating to income security.
Mr Whitlam, said today that Mr Castles has had excellent
experience in rendering service to Australian Governments
in economic policy formulation, including key participation
in the formulation of the policy for the income tax system
announced in the recent Budget speech.
