APPOINTMENTS
Mr J. H. M. Oswin, Secretary of the Department of the
Media, has been appointed Australian Ambassador to UNESCO.
Mr Oswin, who is 52, has been head of the Department
of the Media since its creation in 1973. He was educated in Sydney
and, following service in the RAAF, held a number of senior
appointments in broadcasting and television. Prior to
his appointment as Secretary of the Department of the Media,
Mr Oswin was Managing Director of Seven Network Pty Ltd.
Mr Oswin is also at present a member of the Australia Council
and a member of the Board of the Film and Television School.
Mr J. J. Spigelman, has been appointed Secretary of
the Department of the Media, effective from 30 June 1975.
Mr Spigelman, who is 29, has been on the staff of
Mr Whitlam since September 1972. Before then he practised
as a solicitor in Sydney.
He is a graduate in Arts and Law from Sydney
University and won the University Medal in Law in 1970.
Mr J. H. Mant will become Principal Private Secretary
to the Prime Minister. He is at present Assistant Secretary
in the Department of Urban and Regional Development.
He is 38, obtained a BA and LlB at Sydney University.
He practised as a solictor in Sydney and since 1971 has worked
as a Town Planner in Canberra.
