FAIRFIELD RED GRANTS
The Prime Minister and Member for Werriwa,
Mr Gough Whitlam, said today that Fairfield Council should
feel particularly satisfied at their latest grants under
the R. E. D. Scheme. The Council received at total of
120, 256. Mr Whitlam. said that the Australian Ministerial
Committee on Regional Employment Development Schemes had
met a week ago to consider grant applications.
The largest single project grant was $ 279,828
which would cover 26 weeks employment for 56 people
involved in clearing areas of Fairfield Park.
Another grant of $ 197,919 would enable 33
people to work for 26 weeks on the construction of dog
show rings, fences and physical fitness track in the
Fairfield area.
Mr Whitlam said the Austiralian Government would
provide $ 142,758 of the $ 156,504 needed to employ 27
people for 26 weeks in clearing fire hazards, and planting
and maintaining trees in playgrounds and reserves throughout
the municipality. Work on the removal of debris in Carrawood Park
and Lansdowne Bridge Reserve will include the building
of car parks and picnic areas at Prospect Creek. This
project will employ 21 people for 26 weeks and has attracted
a grant of $ 124,052.
Other grants will include $ 130,000 to employ 23
people for 8-26 weeks on work on the Prout Parks at Mount
Pritchard; $ 136,072 providing ' employment for 23 people for
26 weeks at the Fairfield Golf Course and Rosley Park and
$ 109,627 to employ 18 people for 26 weeks on projects along
the Fairfield Railway line.
Mr Whitlam said a total of 201 people would gain
jobs under the grants, and they would be selected from
those registered with the Commonwealth Employment Service
at Fairfield.
