PRESS STATEMENT NO. 411
11 December 1974
MINISTERIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGES
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, has announced that the
Governor-General today swore-in the Honourable Jim Cairns, M. P.
as Treasurer and the Honourable Frank Crean, as Minister
for Overseas Trade.
This gives effect to the Prime Minister's announcement
of 21 November 1974 that these changes would be made at the end
of the Budget sittings.
The Prime Minister also announced that the Governor-
General had approved certain changes in administrative
arrangements. The Industries Assistance Commission and the Prices
Justification Tribunal, which have to date been administered
by the Prime Minister, are being transferred to the
administration of the Special minister of State.
The Australian Industry Development Corporation is
being transferred from the overseas Trade Portfolio to that
of the Treasurer. Responsibility for the administration of the scheme of
adjustment assistance to industry is being transferred from the
portfolio of the Minister for Overseas Trade to that of the
Minister for Manufacturing Industry.
The Prime Minister also announced that the administration
of the Priorities Review Staff is being transferred to his own
portfolio.
