FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR LOCUST CONTROL
The Prime Minister, Mr E. G. Whitlam, today
announced details of Australian Government assistance for
locust control in Queensland.
Speaking from Alice Springs, Mr Whitlam said
he had sent a telegram yesterday to Mr Bjelkc--Petersen
after receiving the necessary details a Queensland request
for financial assistance.
The Prime Minister's telegram stated:
2The Australian Government will be happy to
provide assistance on a dollar for dollar basis up to your
estimate of $ 720,000. In doing so, we have very imuch in
mind the great need throughout the world for the food
crops which are endangered."~
