Press Statement No. 185
Statement by the Prime Minister
New Itinerary for The Queen's Interrupted Visit
As a result of changes during the weekend a new
itinerary has been arranged for the return visit in March
by The Queen -to South Austral. ia, Western Australia and the
Northern Territory. The Queen will now visit Western Australia before
South Australia instead of' the other way around.
She will fly from Adelaide to Darwin, ending her
tour there on Sunday 10 March as previously announced.
The Queen returns to Australia through Darwi~ n
on. Thursday 7 March and after spending a night aboard the
Roya. Yacht, she will fly to Perth on Friday 8 Ma@ rch to
Adelaide on Saturday 9 March and to Darwin on 10 March0
I was pleased to take up on behalf of the
Government of South Australia a proposal that Her Majesty
be in Adelaide on 9 March to open the Festival of Arts and
this she has now agreed to do.
To do this it was necessary to have the agrepnment
of the Premier of Western Australia..
Both The Queen and I are grateful-to the Premier
of Western Australia for consenting to the change in the
Perth program so as to allow the Adelaide Festival opening
by The Queen to take place.
