UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS
The Australian Government has contributed more than
$ 5,000 towards the costs of bringing five prominent Asian
educationists to Adelaide to participate in the University
of Adelaide's Centenary Celebrations.
Announcing this in Adelaide today, the Prime Minister
and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Whitlam, said that the
Asian visitors would take part in a seminar on " Asian-Australian
Educational and Cultural Relations Past, Present and Future",
which would be a feature of the University's celebrations.
He said that the visiting Asians would be:-
Professor Dr. Slamet Iman Santoso, Deputy Vice-Chancellor,
University of Indonesia, Jakarta.
Professor Nernial Singh Sandhu, Director, Institute of
South-East Asian Studies, Singapore.
Professor P. L. Huang, Vice--Chancellor, University of
Hong Kong.
Professor Syed Alatas, Director of Malay Studies,
University of Singapore.
Professor Datuk Ariffin bin Ijj. Ngah Marzuki,
Vice-Chancellor, the National University of Malaysia.
Mr. Whitlam congratulated the University of its initiative
in arranging such a seminar, the aims of which he said, conformed
clcsely with the Government's interests in furthering Australia's
relations with the countries of Asia.
