APPOINTIeNT OF AMBA3SADOR TO VENEZUELA
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr" 1hitlam, announced
today the appointment of Mr F. T. Homer as Austral ' s first
Ambassador to Venezuela. Mr Homer, who is at present Australia's
Ambassador to Brazil, will be resident in Brasilia and make
periodic visits to Venezuela.
Mr Homer was born in 1917 and was educated
at Christian Brothers High School and University of Sydney. He
has served in Singapore, The Hague, Ottawa and Rangoon and as
Consul-General in San Francisco from 1963 to 1965. He has been
O Australian Ambassador to Brazil since March 1971.
~ The nomination of Mr Homer follows the establishment
of diplomatic relations between Australia and Venezuela on 31
May this year. Mr Whitlam said the early appointment was further
evidence of the Australian Government's wish to develop its ties
with Venezuela and to expand its representation in Latin Americao
