APPOINTMENT OF AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR TO PAKISTAN
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Whitlam,
announced today the appointment of Mr A. M. Morris as Australian
Ambassador to Pakistan in succession to Mr F. H. Stuart who will
be given another assignment.
Mr Morris was born in 1919 and educated at Geelong
Grammar School and the University of Oxford. He served with
the British Army from 1939 to 1945 when he joined the
Department of Foreign Affairs.
He was stationed in Berlin, Bonn and New Delhi before
his appointment as Australian Minister and later Ambassador to
Laos from 1960 to 1964.
From 1966 he was Australian Ambassador to Austria and
from 1968 was concurrently accredited as Australian Ambassador
to Switzerland until 1970. He has been Ambassador to South
Viet-Nam since 1970.
Mr Morris is married with three children. He is
expected to take up his appointment in June.
