March 1973. APPOINTmENT OF AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR TO BURMA
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr E. G. Whitlam,
announced today the appointment of Mr C. G. Woodard as Australian
O Ambassador to Burma to succeed Mr W. P. J. Handmer who will return
to duty in Canberra. This will be Mr Woodard's first aprointment
as Head of Mission.
Mr Woodard is a career officer of the Department of
Foreign Affairs and was born in 1929. He was educated at Prince
Alfred College in Adelaide and after graduating in Law from the
University of Adelaid joined the Department of Foreign Affairs
ni1n9 52. He has served previously in Korea ( as Australian
Alternate Delegate on/ NCRK), Singaore, London and Washington.
For the past three/ ears Mr Woodard has been Head of the National
Assessment Staff in the Department of Defence. He is married
and has two sons. Ii
