VISIT BY H. R. H. THE PRINCE OF THE NETHERLANDS
The Prince of the Netherlands, who will be the guest of the
Government for his visit to Australia, will be given a ceremonial
welcome on-arrival at R. A. A. F. Base Fairbairn, at iioon on Thursday,
1 February. His Royal Highness and party will travel in a Netherlands
Government aircraft and make a short transit stop at Darwin and
an overnight stop at Townsville en route to Canberra.
They will remain in Australia until the morning of 8 February,
visiting Canberra, Hay, Melbourne, Sydney and Tamworth.
In Canberra, the Prince of the Netherlands will have talks
with the Prime Minister and the Treasurer and with the Secretary,
Department of Overseas Trade. He will also lay a wreath at the
Australian War Memorial and meet the local Dutch community at a
gathering at the Jamieson Centre.
In his role as President of the World Wildlife Fund the Prince
will visit and have talks at the C. S. I. R. O. Division of Wildlife
Research. The Royal party will leave Canberra on Saturday morning 3
February for Hay and stay overnight.
The Prince will arrive in Melbourne at 12 noon on Sunday, 4
February where his engagements include a visit to the Arthur Rylah
Institute for Environmental Research and the Sir Colin Mackenzie
Sanctuary at Healesville. He will also meet the Dutch community,
watch the Australian Show Jumping Championships as guest of the
Australian Equestrian Federation and attend a reception given by the
Government of Victoria.
The Prince will leave Melbourne for Sydney at 10.00 a. m. on
Tuesday, 6 February where his engagements include a luncheon with
businessmen, a meeting with members of the Dutch community, a
reception given by the Government of New South Wales and an
inspection of the joint Dutch-Australian Sand Dredging operationat
Botany Bay. His Royal Highness will visit a cattle stud at
Tamworth on. Wednesday, 7 February.
