DESIGN COMPETITION FOR HIGH COURT
Statement by the Prime :' i; nister, the Rt. Hon. William
McMahon, M. P.
On 4th Anril, I announced the siting of the Figh Court in
Canberra and indicated that a design competition would be conducted
for the building. Following thi3, the National Capital Development
Commission has proceeded with preliminary arrangements for the
conduct of the competition.
I am now pleased to announce that the following five people
have agreed to act as assessors for the competition which will be
conducted on a national basis
SSir Garfield Barwick, Chief Justice of the High Court
Sir John Overall, Chairman of the National Capital
Planning Committee
Professor P. H. Karmel, Chairman of the Australian
Universities Commission
Mr. E. H. Farmer, the Government Architect of New
South Wales
SMr. Daryl Jach-son, Architect ( Melbourne)
Details of the competition will te announced shortly in
the press and professional journals.
