SPECIAL GRANTS FOR HEART AND CANCER RESEARCH
Statement b the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon.
William McMahon, C. H, M. P.
The Prime Minister announced today that the
Commonwealth Government had decided to make a special grant
of $ 250,000 to the National Heart Foundation and a special
grant of $ 100,000 to the Australian Cancer Society.
" The Government has noted that research in the
fields of heart disease and cancer is considered to hold
special promise of community benefits," the Prime Minister
said. " Heart disease is the nation's biggest single
health problem in relation to mortality and morbidity and
cancer is also a disease of major importance.
" The Government has therefore decided to make
special grants to the National Heart Foundation and the
Australian Cancer Society to assist these organisations with
their promising research programmes."
