GIFT TO THE PRESIDENT OF INDONESIA
Statement by the Primre Mlinister, Mr. William McMahon C. H., M. P.
At Parliament House today, the Prime3 Minister, the
Right Honourable William McMahon, presented an atomic
absorption spectrophotomieter to President Socharto of Indonesia
as a gift from the poole of Australia to the people of Indonesia.
In handing over the gift, Mr. McMahon said that
the spectrophotometer had been designed by Australian scientists
for making highly accurate and quick analyses of mineral samples
in ores and soils. Like Australia, Indonesia's economic
development was benefiting increasingly from mineral exploration
and production. He hoped that this example of Australian
scientific technology would be of considerable assistance to
Indonesian geologists, mining engineers and agricultural scientists
in their research programmes.

Your Excellency, On behalf of the people of Australia I would like to
present you with this special gift.
It is an instrument designed by Australian scientists
for quick and accurate analyses of mineral samples in ores and
soils. It is called an atomic absorption spectrophotomreter.
As both our countries are benefiting increasingly from
mineral exploration and production, I hope that this item of
Australian technology will assist the research prograunes of your
geologists, mining engineers and agricultural scientists.
Please accept, Your Excellency, with our warmest wishes,
this gift from the people of Australia to the people of Indonesia.

BACKGROUND SPECIAL AID PRESENTATION TO PRESIDENT SOEHARTO
The atomic absorption spectrophotometer was designed
by C. S. I. R. O. and is a unique example of Australian scientific
technology. Its purpose is to make a highly accurate and quick
analyses of mineral samples in ores and soils. The apparatus
which will be supplied complete with a selection of accessories
suitable for Indonesian conditions, will have a wide application
in Indonesia in the fields of mineral exploration and agricultural
research. The unit, which is manufactured by Varian Techtron Ltd.,
is modular in construction and when assembled measures 6 feet long,
16 inches high and 25 inches wide. It weighs 315 pounds.
The unit will be air freighted to Djakarta after the
presentation.
