ARMY JUNGLE TRAINING CENTRE CANUNGRA
Statement by the Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. William McMahon

The Prime Minister, Mr. McMahon, announced today that
Cabinet had approved the construction of additional training
O facilities at the Army Jungle Training Centre, Canungra, 40 miles
south-west of Brisbane.
The project, to cost a total of $ 7 million, will include
a new tactics training wing, new lecture rooms, additional sleeping
accomodation, messing and recreational facilities, and stores
buildings. The first stage, the construction of the tactics wing
And sleeping and mess accommodation, is scheduled for 1972/ 73 and
will cost $ 2.5 million.
The Jungle Training Centre is responsible for training
all ranks in a wide range of subjects including tactics,
administration and battle efficiency tests.
Since the Jungle Training Centre was built the Regular
Army has doubled in size and the number and scope of courses has
increased enormously. It is now the Army school with the largest
staff and the highest student throughput.
