Two senior appointments in the Commonwealth Public Service were made today.
The appointments are those of Sir Frederick Wheeler as the Secretary to the Department of the Treasury, to succeed Sir Richard Randall who will retire, and Mr A. S. Cooley as Chairman of the Public Service Board in succession to Sir Frederick. Mr Cooley is at present Secretary to the Department of Supply.
Both appointments are effective from 1 November 1971. Mr Cooley's appointment is for a term of five years in accordance with the Public Service Act.
Both Sir Richard Randall and Sir Frederick Wheeler have been outstanding public servants of national and international standing.
Mr Cooley is also an outstanding public servant with lengthy experience in management in areas with a large and diverse work force. An appointment to replace Mr Cooley will be made later.
