STATE VISIT BY GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF NEW ZIEALAND
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. William McMahon
With the approval of The Queen and with the
concurrence of the New Zealand and Australian Governments,
the Governor-General of New Zealand ( Sir Arthur Porritt) and
Lady Porritt have been pleased to accept the invitation
from the Governor-General of Australia ( Sir Paul Hasluck) to
make a State Visit to Australia towards the end of this year.
The visit is lo take place from liednesday 27 October
to Sunday 7 November 1971 and in addition to visiting
Canberra, Sir Arthur and Lady Porritt are scheduled to have
time in Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney in that order.
Consultations are now taking place to prepare a
prograimme of engagements for the visit and an announcement
of these details will be made when an approved prograimme
has been decided.

BACKGROUND NOTE:
Sir Paul Hasluck's official visit to New Zealand in
February of this year was the first time, following an earlierapproval
from Buckingham Palace, that a Governor-General of
Australia had travelled abroad in his official capacity as
Head of his own country. T1he proposed State Visit by the
Governor-General of New Zealand later this year reciprocates
Sir Paul's visit.
