Tasmanian Economic Council Appointments

Four business members will be appointed to the Joint Commonwealth and Tasmanian Economic Council:

  • Professor Janelle Allison, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Regional Development) at the University of Tasmania and Director of the Institute for Regional Development.
  • Mr Wayne Bould, Managing Director of Grange Resources Limited and Managing Director of the Bonney Group of companies.
  • Mr Dale Elphinstone as co-chair and a member. Mr Elphinstone is the Executive Chairman of the Elphinstone Group, founded in 1975.
  • Mr Chris Oldfield, CEO of Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd.

These business members will serve on the Council for an initial period of 18 months.

The Council recognises the national importance of Tasmania’s economic growth and ensures issues affecting Tasmania’s competitiveness are given national prominence.

The Prime Minister and Mr Elphinstone will jointly chair the Council. Other members will include Tasmanian Premier the Hon Will Hodgman, the Treasurer, the Minister for Industry the Hon Ian MacFarlane and the Chair of the Tasmanian Major Projects Approval Agency.

The Council will consider the type of competitive reforms needed to boost Tasmania’s long-term growth. It will also develop definitive, agreed plans and lines of accountability to implement these reforms.

The appointed business members bring a wealth of talent and experience to the Council.
