PM No 96/1970 - Death of President Nasser

P. M. No 96/ 1970

The Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton, has sent the following message to Egypt's Acting President, His Excellency Anwar Sadat:

" On behalf of the Australian Government I extend our sympathy to the Egyptian Government Gand people at the sudden and sad loss of their Leader. President Nasser was a spokesman of stature for the Arab world during a time of great change and complexity. His recent support for a truce in Jordan will be ramemnbered as a contribution to the prospects for a general peace in the Middle East.
