IN~ TERIM COUNCIL FOR A NATIONAL FILM
AND TELEVISION TRAINING SCHOOL
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton
Earlier this year ( on 13 August), I announced that the
Government had accepted the recommendation of the Australian Council for
the Arts that an Interim Council be established to investigate and report on
the form and location of a National Film and Television Training School.
I have invited the following persons, who have accepted my
invitation, to become members of the Interim Council:-
Mr. W. P. Coleman, M. L. A. ( Chairman)
Mrs. Dudley Erwin
Mr. Phillip Adams
Mr. S. G. Hawes
Mr. Barry 0. Jones
Sir Robert Madgwick, 0. B. E.
Sir Ian Wark, C. K C. B. E.
I am sure that each will make a valuable contribution towards
the establishment of the National Film and Television Training School.
The first function of the Interim Council will be to confer
with appropriate representatives of the educational and film fields and to
recommend to the Government an appropriate location for the School. The
Council will then consider the matters necessary to bring the School up to
the point of actual operation.

FILM AND TV TRAINING SCHOOL: BACKGROUND
Extract from 13 August Statement:
" In regard to film-making in Australia, the Government has
accepted the recommendation of the Australian Council for the Arts that an
Interim Council be established to investigate and report on the form and
location of a National Film and Television Training School, and has provided
100, 000 for this purpose. The membership of the Interim Council, which
will include a representative of the National Institute of Dramatic Art, will
be announced shortly,

Deputy Chairman, Australian Council for the Arts. A graduate in Arts,
Education and Law of Melbourne University. Barrister and Solicitor.
Lecturer in History at La Trobe University. Extensive experience with
radio, TV and major art forms.
Mrs. Dudley ERWIN
Member, Australian Council for the Arts. A graduate in Science and Arts
of New York University. Has organised and produced for stage and television.
Has a vocational interest in Modern Dance and is a Council Member of the
Ballarat Fine Arts Gallery.
Sir Robert MADGWICK, 0. B. E.
Chairman, National Institute of Dramatic Art. Chairman, Australian
Broadcasting Commission since 1967. Chairman, N. S. W. State Cultural
Grants Advisory Committee. Sometime, Vice-Chancellor, University of
New England, Director off Army Education.
Sir Ian W. WARK, C. M. C. B. E.
Chairman, Commonwealth Advisory Committee on Advanced Education.
