ROYAL VISIT 1970
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton
The Queen has been pleased to approve an itinerary for
Her visit to Australia next year with The Duke of Edinburgh.
They will be in Australia from Easter Monday 30 March
to Sunday 3 May, and will visit the Australian Capital Territory, New
South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania. The itinerary is:-
March to 2 April
2 April to 4 April
April to 8 April
8 April to 12 April
12 April to 23 April
23 April to 28 April
28 April to 3 May New South Wales
Tasmania Victoria H. M. Y. " Britannia" en route to Brisbane
Queensland including three days rest
period on H. M. Y. " Britannia"

As previously announced The Queen and The Duke of
Edinburgh will take part in the celebrations of the bi-centenary of
Captain Cook's voyage. Her Majesty and His Royal Highness have
suggested that some events related to the major economic development
in Australia after the first settlements might be included in the programme,
for example, events connected with exploration and transport, the
development of agriculture and mining and port development. The Queen
and The Duke of Edinburgh also hope to see something of the work in
Australian schools and hospitals and nature conservation.
Lt. Gen. Sir Reginald Pollard, K. B. C. D. S. 0.,
will be returning to Australia on Monday 11I August following discussions
in London and will be meeting with the State Directors at an early date
to settle the detailed programme of engagements to be submitted for
Her Majesty's consideration.
