I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Peter Shergold AM as Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet for a term of five years. The appointment will date from 10 February 2003.
Dr Shergold is a distinguished and highly experienced public administrator. He has served this and previous governments in a number of senior positions. A copy of Dr Shergold's curriculum vitae is attached.
I am sure that with his strong academic credentials, varied experience and commitment to a professional public service he will provide strong leadership to the Australian Public Service.
Pending the appointment of a new Secretary the Department of Education, Science and Training, Dr Wendy Jarvie will act in that position.
