The Historic Memorials Committee has commissioned
portraits of the Prime Minister and two former Prime Ministers.
Mr Gorton's portxait is being painted by Mr Russell
Drysdale; Mr McEwen's by Mr W. A. Dargie; and the late Mr Holt's
portrait by Mr W. E. Pidgeon.
It is expected that the portraits of Mr Gorton and
Mr McEwen will be completed and considered by the Historic
Memorials Committee shortly. If the Committee accepts them, they
will be hung in King's Hall at Parliament House, Canberra, along with
those of all other Australian Prime Ministers.
The portrait of Mr H-olt will be painted from available
photographs and films. It will be some time before it is ready
for consideration by the Committee.
The Historic Memorials Committee comprises the Prime
Minister ( Chairman), the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the
House of Representatives, the Vice-President of the Executive Council,
the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives and the
Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
