Australian Conservation Foundation chief executive Don Henry has tonight been named the Prime Minister's Environmentalist of the Year.
Mr Henry was awarded the title this evening for his outstanding commitment to environmental advocacy over many years.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Urban Water presented the award on the Prime Minister's behalf at the United Nations Association of Australia's World Environment Day awards ceremony in Melbourne.
The Prime Minister's Young Environmentalist of the Year award was jointly presented to Ms Kirsty Albion and Ms Lucy Manne for their powerful vision and leadership of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition.
The Prime Minister congratulated the award winners and paid tribute to Mr Henry for dedicating his working life to protecting and advocating on behalf of the environment.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to all of the award nominees and finalists for their ongoing efforts to protect the environment.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Urban Water said the winners represented a commitment and passion for protecting our environment which should inspire many Australians.
