VISIT BY THE PRESIDENT OF NAURU
Statement by the Acting Prime Minister, Mr. John McEwen
The Acting Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. John McEwen,
announced today that His Excellency Hammer DeRoburt, President of the
Republic of Nauru, would make an official visit to Australia commencing
on Tuesday, 18 June.
Nauru is the first country Australia has sponsored for
Independence. Mr. Mciwen said that the forthcoming visit by its first
President is warmly welcomed by the Australian Government and would
further strengthen the strong ties of friendship and goodwill that exist
between the two countries.
In the course of his official visit, the President will visit
Melbourne from 18 to 24 June and Canberra from 24 to 29 June.
The arrival and departure of the President at the National
Capital will be ceremonial occasions.
The President will be accompanied by Mrs. DeRoburt and
Mr. Buraro Detudamo, Minister Assistant to the President.
