Mr Geoffrey Blainey has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Commonwealth Literary Fund. Mr Blainey's appointment follows the resignation of Professor A R. Chisholm.
Mr Blainey is Reader in Economic History within the University of Melbourne.
He was the winner of the Sir Ernest Scott Prize, 1955, the Gold Medal of the Australian Literature Society and the Harbison-Higinbotham Prize of 1963. His publications Include " The Peaks of Lyell" 1954, " The University of Melbourne a Centenary Portrait" 1956, " Mines in the Spinifex" 1960 and " The Tyranny of Distance".
Mr Blainey is a fine writer and a distinguished historian and will be a very welcome addition to the Board.
