Mr President David Kemp and can I join Peter Costello in paying tribute to Russell Hannan for the wonderful work he did as a steward and as a leader of the Victorian division in very difficult circumstances, we are profoundly in your debt Russell for the contribution that you have made to our great cause. I also want to express my personal delight that David Kemp, who has given so much over such a long period of time has become unanimously the President of this division of the Liberal Party. I know and admire David, he served a former Liberal Prime Minister with great commitment, he worked in the organisation through difficult years, and he served as a fine minister in my Government, and I thank him for his further commitment to our great cause in a very difficult year.
I also thank Peter Costello, the architect more than anybody else of the great economic prosperity that Australia has at the present time, for the wonderful contribution he has made as Treasurer, as Deputy Leader, as part of a Prime Ministerial-Treasurer partnership without parallel in the political history of Australia.
Last Monday, my fellow Australians, I delivered a speech in Brisbane, which is the first of a series I'll be delivering over the weeks and months ahead, detailing the Coalition's forward agenda for our nation. Under the theme of
