THE MINISTRY
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. Harold Holt
The Ministry will be sworn tomorrow. With the authority of
His Excellency the Governor-General, I release the following details about
the new Cabinet and Ministry.
The Ministers of State Act limits the total number of Ministers to
I propose to ask Parliament when it meets to amend the Act, so as to
permit the appointment of one additional Minister. When this has been done,
the full list and portfolios of Ministers will be as follows

The first twelve Ministers named will comprise the Cabinet.
Until the Ministers of State Act has been amended, Senator Gorton
will be Minister for Works as well as Minister for Education and Science.
The appointment of Mr. Kelly as Minister for Works will be deferred until
the Parliament passes and assent is given to the necessary amendments to
the Ministers of State Act.
I have proposed that tomorrow Mr. Kelly be sworn as Executive
