ECONOMIC CONSULTATIONS
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. Harold Holt.
The Government this afternoon completed its
current series of economic consultations when Ministers met
representatives of the A. C. T. U. Today's meeting followed
discussions last week with representatives of commerce and
industry. The A. C. T. U. was represented by Mr. Albert Monk
( President), Mr. J. D. Kenny ( Vice-President), Mr. W. P.
Evans ( Junior Vice-President) and Mr. H. J. Souter ( Secretary).
Apart from the Prime Minister, Ministers
present were Mr. J. McEwen, Minister for Trade and Industry,
Mr. W. McMahon, Treasurer, Mr. C. F. Adermann, Minister for
Primary Industry, Senator N. H. D. Henty, Minister for Supply,
Mr. D. E. Fairbairn, Minister for National Development and Mr.
L. H. E. Bury, Minister for Labour and National Service.
The A. C. T. U. representatives submitted several
proposals, and the Government appreciated the opportunity of
obtaining at first hand the views of the Council. Consideration
will be given to these.
