I condemn the violence utterly and I, on behalf of the Australian community, thank the police for the excellent work they do. It's rotten difficult work and I always feel for the police force. And I think they deserve the gratitude of the Australian community. There's nothing to be gained by that mad senseless violence and I respect greatly the restraint the police displayed.
